  1. Hi.
    Could you please clarify the fermentation of lactose by S.pyogenes as mentioned in the table above.
    According to experiments,MAC with or without salt hasnt shown any postive growth of the bacteria.
    What is this result based on?

    • MAC is favorable for growing gram- rods and tends to inhibit gram + cocci, so it is not surprising that S. pyogenes will not grow on it. If you have a sugar broth of lactose, S. pyogenes will ferment it, which is indicated by turning the tube yellow.
